Striking photos have emerged of an excavator stuck in a pond at a Bushey park, as questions remain over how it ended up there.
Residents questioned what had happened after pictures were posted online of the construction machinery part stuck in gunky water in the Moatfield Recreation Ground yesterday (September 25).
The digger appears to be leaning to one side as it has sunk up to above its caterpillar tracks, while one resident reported that its back window had also been “smashed in”.
Workmen had been using the machinery to remove overgrowth from around the sides of the moat, although it is not known how it ended up in the middle of the water.
One resident claimed: "They were cleaning it out and the digger got stuck, they’re moving it tomorrow."

Others reacted with shock as one said the pond was "in such a state", adding: "The excavator is a new addition though.”
Another resident joked: “You can’t park there mate!”
A spokesperson for Hertsmere Borough Council said: "We have been carrying out works and, in doing this, the digger became stuck. However, it has now been removed."
