Two Meriden tower blocks are set for a major package of improvements including replacing all external windows and extending the fire sprinkler system.
Abbey and Munden View will receive a range of upgrades by Watford Community Housing over the next 12 months, which will also see the communal heating system upgraded.
Preliminary works have already began on the central heating as contractor Kensa began drilling the first boreholes in the car parks on Monday (September 23), which will supply renewable energy to individual heat pumps in each property.
Residents at the nearby low-rise Coldharbour House, Foxtree House, Maple Court and Peartree Court will also benefit from the new ground source heat pump system.

Next year, the housing association is also planning to replace all external windows, add extra insulation, swap the internal light bulbs for LEDs and extend the existing sprinkler system to improve fire safety.
Both towers’ roofs will be waterproofed and the central ventilation system will be replaced with individual controls for each flat.
WCH said scaffolding will also be installed around the buildings in the coming months to allow the window, roofing and insulation works to be carried out between February and September 2025.
