It has been suggested that a Watford church that saw 125 years of services could be divided up into separate units.

In 2021, Leavesden Road Baptist Church said the pandemic and maintaining the grade II listed building added “extra pressures on an already stretched congregation”, which ultimately led to its closure that December.

It was put up for sale the next year, with a listing via property consultant Rapleys inviting offers in excess of £1.9 million.

Signs advertising its sale have since been taken down. Today (September 23), Rapleys confirmed that it has been sold and offered some information on its future.

The new owner is apparently looking to divide it for different uses, as an investment. This could apparently include some parts being used for flats and office suites, but the main church hall would likely be leased to a faith or community group.

Rapleys is also marketing the nearby St Thomas’ United Reformed Church after it was put up for sale earlier this month.

Offers in the region of £2 million are being sought for the Langley Road building. In just two weeks, around 51 enquiries have apparently already been made.
