Photos have emerged of swathes of Cassiobury Park underwater after Watford was hit by torrential rain.

The snaps taken at 10.30am this morning (September 23) show the play park under a foot of water after the River Gade overflowed onto nearby green spaces and picnic areas.

The Dome roundabout Sainsbury’s in Cow Lane will also not be reopening “for the day”, according to staff, after it shut earlier this morning.

(Image: Roger Middleton) The Sainsbury’s petrol station and nearby Tim Hortons drive-thru have confirmed that they remain open, while Timpson and Argos inside the store are not responding to calls, suggesting they may also have shut.

(Image: Roger Middleton) A yellow weather warning for rain from the Met Office is in place all day across most of England and Wales, as the forecaster said “anywhere within the warning area could have impactful rainfall through the course of Monday”.

Watford is set for wet weather for the rest of the day with a 70 per cent chance of rain forecast until 6am tomorrow (September 24), according to the Met Office.
