A man was taken to hospital after the air ambulance was called to HMP The Mount on Thursday (September 19).
The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that the helicopter and an ambulance were called to the Bovingdon-based prison at around 11.45am, with a man was transported by road to hospital for treatment.
"We were called around 11.45am on Thursday, September 19 to HMP The Mount in Bovingdon," a spokesperson said.
"An ambulance, ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Service were sent to the scene. An adult man was transported by road to hospital for treatment."
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice also confirmed the presence of the air ambulance, and said that "someone from the prison" was transferred to hospital.
When the Watford Observer asked if it was an inmate or a HMP The Mount staff member that had been hospitalised, the MoJ declined to comment further.
The spokesperson also refused to comment on why the ambulance service had been called and on the condition of the man involved.
