The reason why an air ambulance was spotted landing in Cassiobury Park has been confirmed by the emergency services.

Residents wondered online why the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance aircraft had touched down in the park yesterday afternoon (September 20), before it was later filmed taking off again.

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service has now confirmed it was called out to the area following a crash between a blue Volkswagen Up and a cyclist in St Albans Road in Sandridge, near St Albans, at around 2.42pm.

As the air ambulance was not needed, it touched down in the Watford park before returning to base.

It comes just over a week after a helicopter was also seen landing in Cassiobury Park on the afternoon of September 9 after a similar crash in St Albans.
