Magistrates have banned a 24-year-old from driving after he admitted injuring someone through careless driving on the M1 near Watford.

Ronan Varley appeared at Northampton Magistrates' Court on Monday (September 16) charged with causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving.

The 24-year-old, of Muirhead Drive in Bradford, was accused of injuring another man while he was behind the wheel “without due care or attention" on October 25, 2022.

Varley pleaded guilty and was handed a community order which disqualified him from driving for 12 months.

He must also complete 200 hours of unpaid work within the next year and up to 10 days of a rehabilitation activity, as well as pay £199 in costs and a victim surcharge.

Also in court:

Sandeep Kalsi, of Coates Way in Watford, appeared at St Albans Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (September 18) for sentencing after he broke his community order.

The 44-year-old was handed the order from the same court on April 11 after he admitted beating a woman in Watford on September 2, 2023.

On Wednesday, Kalsi admitted failing to attend two office appointments in May and June and failing to give acceptable evidence for his absences within the time limit.

He was resentenced for the original charge and was handed an eight-week jail sentence suspended for 12 months, as the offence was “so serious”. He must also pay £100 in compensation.
