The police crackdown on violent gangs in Watford has led to a man being charged and a gun seized.

Officers executed a warrant on Tuesday (September 17), following which Mark Brummitt, of The Gossamers in Meriden, was arrested and charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

The 21-year-old appeared at court the following day and was remanded into custody.

The warrant was done by officers from Herts Police’s specialist organised crime team, Operation Relentless. A spokesperson said: “Following the increase in violent crime in Watford, particularly that involving firearms, the Operation Relentless team has been carrying out an investigation into the organised crime networks operating in the town.

“Whilst we have no evidence that there are any links between this operation and the recent gun crime in the town, we are working to identify those involved and pursuing anyone involved in organised and violent crime.”

A shooting on the A41 in July – which has been linked with several other targeted attacks in Watford – has led to multiple arrests and charges.

The fatal shooting in Kings Langley this week is not being linked with those, police said. No one has been arrested.

“We rely on information from the public so anyone with information that could help us prevent further violence is asked to make contact with us," the spokesperson added.

Information can also be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers.
