A former golf driving range is set to be demolished after it suffered graffiti, antisocial behaviour and repeated trespass while derelict for years.

Photos submitted by Watford-based Flahive Developments show the walls of the Oxhey Park Golf Club driving range have been graffitied since it shut in March 2017, while around seven caravans and a mobile home later broke onto it in 2019 for multiple days.

(Image: Phase 2) On Monday (September 18), Three Rivers District Council ruled the developers can go ahead with knocking down the former facility and outbuildings off Prestwick Road as prior approval was not necessary.

In the application submitted in August, developers had said: “The need for such demolition follows current and consistent trespassing onto the site leading to antisocial behaviour and despite numerous attempts to secure/make safe (at significant financial cost) the antisocial behaviour continues to take place consistently.

“This puts the applicant in a potentially vulnerable position and therefore the only realistic way to resolve this problem is to demolish such redundant buildings/structures in order to make the site safe and secure.”

It is not clear what will replace the driving range, although the application states the current building’s footprints will be left “flat, clear and tidy” as hardstanding once demolished.
