A rogue driver who rammed a police car and led officers on a “terrifying” chase through North Watford roads is still on the run.
In a post online, a resident warned others that he had just seen the pursuit in St Albans Road on Monday evening (September 9), adding: “Need to have a helicopter and a film crew!”
The eyewitness said he “heard a screech and soon after three unmarked cars along Fuller Road followed by a 4th on St Albans Road in the general direction of Asda, before a marked car went by a minute later. All over quickly at this point… but where to!!!?”
Herts Police confirmed this morning: “At around 5.20pm on Monday, officers on proactive patrol in Watford spotted a red/orange Nissan Qashqai that was suspected to be on cloned plates."
Vehicle cloning is when a criminal uses another car's number plate to hide its identity, according to Herts Police, which is done to carry out criminal activity or to avoid tickets.

“They attempted to stop the vehicle in Leggatts Way but it failed to do so and a pursuit was authorised. During the incident, a police vehicle was damaged after it was rammed by the Nissan," the spokesperson added.
“The driver and vehicle remain outstanding at this time.”
