Police have confirmed why a road near a bridge was forced to close in Hemel Hempstead this afternoon.
Officers shut Queensway for an hour and a half from around 12.22pm today (September 11) and drivers were advised to avoid the area.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police has confirmed it was over concerns for the welfare of a man in his 30s on the pedestrianised Nickey Line Bridge, which runs over the road.
Residents voiced queries on social media about what was happening, with one reportedly seeing police "standing under the bridge, looking up".
Queensway has now re-opened following the earlier incident.

They also left messages of support to the person involved, adding: "I hope whoever it is is okay and gets the help they need."
The police spokesperson confirmed the road was reopened at around 1.55pm and the man was taken to Watford General Hospital by officers for further care.
