Police have charged an 18-year-old from Watford over a stabbing which is being linked with several "targeted" attacks around town.

Officers were called just before 10.20pm on Tuesday, July 23, to reports of an assault in Maeme’s takeaway in Clarendon Road.

Two people apparently entered a shop with knives and assaulted a man. When officers found the victim, another man in his 20s, he was taken to hospital with a suspected stab wound.

Today (September 11), police confirmed Marcel Gordon, of Abbey View in the Meriden, was arrested on Friday and has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.

The 18-year-old was remanded into custody before he appears at St Albans Crown Court on Tuesday, October 8.

He is the third person to be brought before the courts over a series of “targeted” attacks which police are linking, which includes the A41 shooting on July 25 that left a man in his 20s fighting for his life. He remains in hospital in a serious but non-life-threatening condition.

Police are also linking it to an incident in Meriden Park also on July 25, and a stabbing in Brocklesbury Close on July 24 two hours after the Maeme’s incident.

An attack outside Watford High Street Station on July 10, which saw a man in his 20s chased by suspects brandishing a gun, is also being connected.

(Image: Newsquest) Officers have arrested 11 people so far, including 26-year-old Hekmat Galmne, of Eastern Avenue in Pinner, who appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on August 29 charged with attempted murder over the shooting.

Emmanjuel Nyanutenha, of King George Avenue in Watford, has also been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place over the Brocklesbury Close attack, and remains in custody after he did not appear at St Albans Crown Court on August 27.

Detective Sergeant George Lewin said: “I know news of this assault will understandably have concerned members of the local community and I hope this charge provides some reassurance.

“There is no place for this type of violence in Watford and carrying weapons will not be tolerated. We will do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice and ensure we keep our communities safe. As part of this increased patrols are already taking place in Watford under Operation Hotspot.

“Although we have secured this charge, our investigation is still ongoing. If there is anyone who is yet to speak to police and has information that could assist with our investigation, please do get in touch."
