Bereaved families in Watford are in safe hands as the town’s burial services have received the highest award by a national body.
The North Watford and Vicarage Road cemeteries have been awarded the gold standard by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM), which advises on best practice for bereavement services.
To receive the award, Watford Borough Council facilities had to achieve a set of standards regarding burial, cremation and funerals, including the facilities offered and information available.

Mayor Peter Taylor said: “When somebody passes away it is always a difficult time for their family of loved ones. That’s why we provide good facilities and support, to ensure the burial goes as smoothly as possible.
“We work hard to make sure our parks, cemeteries and green spaces are maintained to the highest possible standards, which is why we have the highest number of Green Flags in Hertfordshire.
"It is so important that we offer residents in Watford a helpful and peaceful experience to remember their loved ones.”
It comes after North Watford Cemetery underwent improvements in recent years including the restoration of its iron gates, a new Centenary Memorial Garden, and upgrades to the pond with added seating which earnt it national Green Flag status.
