Plans to use green belt land to keep alpacas and horses have been called in for council consideration.

On Thursday evening (September 12) Three Rivers District Council is set to consider a planning application for an area of land behind Croxley House in Little Green Lane, Croxley Green.

The site had previously been the subject of a series of failed bids to build between one and 34 homes but horticulture use is now proposed.

Poly tunnels and a potting enclosure would be built in a small area to the southwest, a larger area to the north of it would be set aside for alpaca grazing, and the east of the site would be a horse grazing paddock with a hay store and mobile stables.

Ahead of the meeting, council officers have recommended that the plan should be approved “subject to no new material considerations being raised”.

It was called in for the meeting agenda by committee members over the potential impact on the conservation area, green belt, and nearby roads after Croxley Green Parish council requested this.

The parish council said it had concerns over “creeping development within the green belt” and nine neighbours objected to the plan with fears that allowing it could lead to further development down the line.

Council officers judged that each element falls under agricultural use and so would be appropriate in the green belt.

Neighbouring Croxley House is currently vacant but there are plans to convert it into a nursery.
