The former home of a beloved restaurant looks set to be demolished for housing ahead of a planning meeting this week.

Pin Wei in High Street, Abbots Langley, closed in December 2022 – 17 years after opening and six months after the site’s owner told the family business its contract would be ending.

In October 2023, plans to demolish the building to make room for six two-storey houses were submitted to Three Rivers District Council.

They initially looked set to be approved at a planning committee meeting on August 15, after a recommendation for approval from council officers, but committee members instead deferred due to concerns over how the bins would be collected.

The applicant has since submitted an amended layout plan as well as adding ramped access for three of the plots, with accessibility also having been raised as a concern at the meeting.

Residents would now have to place their bins onto a relocated bin stand on collection days and more information on the turning circle for bin lorries was offered.

Having looked over the updated documentation, council officers have again recommended approval and the plans will be considered on Thursday evening (September 12).

Although officers make a recommendation, the final decision is down to the councillors on the committee.

If approved, three of the homes would be three-bedroom, two would be two-bedroom, and one would be four-bedroom.
