Plans to allow temporary film studios to remain at Bovingdon Airfield permanently have been approved.

Dacorum Borough Council has granted permission to make them a full-time fixture after they were allowed to be there temporarily as part of a planning application in 2021.

Filming has been taking place at the airfield for a number of years but due to "continued demand" the latest proposals for a fifth permanent studio were submitted in July 2023.

Sitting to the east of the former runway, the application site is next to the four other permanent studio buildings and an associated production area.

A fifth film-making studio building will be of the same design, size and finish to the adjacent permanent studios.

Approval comes following the announcement of ITV's Dancing on Ice being filmed at the airfield, as well as Amazon's second series of the Lord of the Rings prequel.

Bovingdon Airfield has been a popular location for filming since the 1960s, and it has ramped up since 2017 after the construction of ITV Studios at the complex.
