Youngsters taking part in a fun run in Cassiobury Park 35 years ago this month had every reason to be star-struck when one of Britain’s biggest pop stars made a guest appearance.
A Watford Observer photographer captured the scenes as Simon Le Bon started a race in the Watford park on September 10 before handing out prizes to the winners
The lead singer of Duran Duran, who shot to fame as part of the New Romantic movement in the early 1980s and became one of this country’s biggest groups, appeared in a happy and relaxed mood as he signed autographs and posed for pictures with the excited children.

The Bushey-born vocalist was joined by Watford footballer Iwan Roberts at the event, with the Hornets striker joining in the fun by getting ‘on his marks’ with some of the youngest participants.
