Plans to build large warehouses at the site of a brickworks established in the 1920-30s have been recommended for approval.
Dacorum Borough Council’s planning committee is set to meet this time next week (September 5) to discuss whether the land can be used for eleven buildings designed for flexible light industrial use.
Bovingdon Brickworks, in Leyhill Road, ran for almost a century, making use of nearby clay, but had to cease production in 2016, partly because of the declining quality of the clay deposits.

The buildings were then demolished in October 2022.
The plans are split into two parts, both of which have been recommended for approval by council officers ahead of consideration next week.
Phase one will see seven units built, which could be used for factory or storage purposes, as well as an access road.
Phase two would then add seven more, further back from the road, but the designs for this are only in outline, meaning full plans would need to be submitted and approved at a later date before anything could be built.
Brick features have apparently been incorporated into their design to “create a link back to the site’s use as a brickworks”.
Although council officers make a recommendation, the final decision will be down to the councillors on the committee.
