Many distinctive buildings from Watford’s past have been lost, including this house.
The Watford Observer has again joined forces with its friends at Watford Museum to look back at structures, objects or businesses from the town’s past that have either disappeared or been relocated and this week we look back at an unusual house on a street corner.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “Although the corner of Derby Road and Gladstone Road still exists, the ivy-clad building with an unusual row of trees by the front fence has been demolished. A new modern building stands here today.
“The scene in this photo looks down Gladstone Road, and when photographed its junction with Derby Road would have been a T junction.
“Today, Derby Road is split in half by the roadway linking the ring road to the big roundabout near to Tesco.
“It appears that at one time, the house was named Sheriden House and in later years was a boarding house.”
