Smoke filled a flat above a High Street shop as three fire engines were called to tackle the blaze.
Herts Fire and Rescue has confirmed it was called to a fire above Queen's Nails and Spa at around 6pm on Friday (August 23).
Crews from Watford and Garston fire stations arrived and found the first floor property “heavily smoke logged” due to a fire in the stairwell.

Assistant chief fire officer Mark Barber said: “We sent three fire engines to reports of a fire in a flat above a shop in High Street, Watford, on Friday evening.
“Everyone was safely accounted for and firefighters extinguished a fire in a stairwell that had filled the flat with smoke.
“We encourage everyone to make sure they have a working smoke alarm, as this will give you and your family the early warning you need to be able to get out safely in the event of a fire.”
Once the blaze was extinguished, firefighters were able to ventilate the flat to clear the smoke. Nobody was injured.
Queen's Nails and Spa was not badly affected by the fire and has been able to open as normal, staff confirmed today (August 27).
Herts Police were also called to the scene and officers put road closures in place in Lower High Street.
