Resurfacing for one of Watford’s major roads, recently named its most dangerous for cyclists, means it will be shut tomorrow.

Hertfordshire Highways will be carrying out roadworks in St Albans Road, from The Dome roundabout to Longspring and from Bedford Street to West Street, between August 28 and September 5.

These will be done under a road closure from 8pm to 5am each day, meaning parked cars will need to be removed before 8pm.

A midnight 'noise curfew' is set to be followed. The resurfacing is weather dependent and so may be postponed if poor weather is forecast.

The main section, between Balmoral Road and Bedford Street, will be resurfaced in October. It was left out of the work starting tomorrow to avoid digging up newly constructed road surface when drainage works begin there in early October.

St Albans Road saw 16 accidents involving a bicycle last year, according to freedom of information requests sent to Hertfordshire Police by eye surgery experts OCL Vision.

The data, revealed earlier this month, placed it as the most dangerous road for cyclists in Watford and among the top three in Hertfordshire.
