Hi, I’m Malu, a two-year-old Akita looking for a new home after coming to the National Animal Welfare Trust two weeks ago as an unclaimed stray.

I’m a big, beautiful girl so need an owner with experience of large breed dogs. I’m a sweet girl who loves spending time with people. I get so excited when I see people coming up to my kennel I jump up to say hello and tell you how happy I am to see you, although people do keep telling me it would be more polite if I kept my paws on the ground. I’m still working on that!

I’m an overgrown puppy at heart, probably because I haven’t had the early training and socialisation that dogs need, so my new owners will need to dedicate a lot of time to helping me learn how to behave.

Luckily for you, I’m a clever girl who loves doing reward-based training, so we should have lots of fun together while I learn. I recently learnt how to give paw and love how everyone calls me a good girl whenever I show them! Being this clever does mean I get bored easily, so I’ll need lots of enrichment activities to keep my mind active.

I have a tendency to resource guard so my new owner will need to have experience with this behaviour.

I’m looking for a home with a big secure garden living with adults and teenagers only where I’ll be the only pet. I’ve made some doggy friends on walks but would prefer to be the only pet. I get worried when I’m alone, so need someone home with me most the day.

If your family is missing a happy girl like me, apply today! Email reception@nawt.org.uk or call 0208 950 0177 (option 2) to arrange to meet.
