Work to install new pipes under a road closure are “likely” to cause delays, but Cadent hopes for an early reopening.
The Green, in Croxley Green, was shut for "major works" at 8am this morning (August 19) – between Watford Road and New Road - according to Hertfordshire Highways.
There was some confusion among residents over the length of the closure, which appears to have stemmed from the 18-month trial permanent closure of nearby Little Green Lane.

Cadent has confirmed that the permit only allows for a closure until August 30, with a spokesperson adding that work will hopefully be done sooner than that.
The spokesperson added: “From Monday August 19, we will be carrying out a mains replacement programme in The Green to install tough new pipes which will last for decades, future proofing the local network and keeping thousands of homes warm.
“We are very conscious of the disruption roadworks cause and are in regular contact with the highways authority to keep them updated on our work which we will always complete as quickly and as safely as we can.

“We’d like to thank residents for their understanding and patience as this work is completed.
"We would also like to remind everyone that if they ever suspect a gas leak then they should call the gas emergency number on 0800 111 999 as it may not be related to this incident.
“The number operates 24/7 and is free to call.”
The designated diversion route is just under five kilometres and sends motorists around Watford Road and Baldwins Lane.
