Plans for homes have been withdrawn after objections to the building being “in the middle of an industrial estate”.

Units six and eight at Century Court were the subject of an attempt to use permitted development rights to divide them up and create four homes, submitted to Three Rivers District Council in June.

Within the industrial estate, off Tolpits Lane in Watford, the building is surrounded by offices on one side and garages behind it in Moor Park Industrial Centre.

Hertfordshire Highways recommended that planning permission be refused because its location does not support “sustainable travel”, and the body felt it would not be possible to introduce it there.

Two neighbours also objected, both highlighting parking and the safety issues for pedestrians, particularly children, due to large vehicles moving through the estate.

Batchworth Community Council added: “BCC strongly objects to the conversion of a commercial building that is in the middle of an industrial estate.

“The proposed residential conversion is inappropriate and unsuitable as it is located next to an adjoining commercial property and has no provision for any amenity or garden space.”

Yesterday (August 15), the developer confirmed the proposal had been withdrawn and that “no further action will be taken on it”.

This does not prevent the applicant coming back with amended plans for homes at the location.
