Emergency engineering work is taking place this morning after a train hit something on a line between Watford and Euston.

At 7.23pm yesterday (August 12), National Rail confirmed that the collision with an obstruction was causing delays and cancellations between London Euston and Watford Junction.

These lasted until around midnight and also affected London Northwestern Railway(LNR) services between London and Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Northampton, and Tring, as well as many Avanti West Coast services.

At around 1am this morning, LNR warned that damaged overhead wires at Camden meant more disruption was on the way for its route into London Euston.

The company said that the timetable has been “amended” due to the engineering work, updated its journey planner to include many cancelled departures from Watford Junction, and shared a list of “affected services”.

It is understood from replies to customer queries this morning that all of the services it listed have been cancelled.

Update: London Northwestern Railway has confirmed that repairs are now complete and services are returning to normal.

An Avanti West Coast service came into contact with the overhead wires at around 7pm yesterday, causing the damage.
