No trains are set to run on a line from Watford Junction during rush hour.

National Rail initially confirmed that a points failure between Shepherds Bush and Watford Junction was causing disruption at 3.41pm but it was expected that, despite delays, services would still be running.

Issues were expected until 5pm, but this was later pushed back to 6.30pm. Then, there was more bad news at 5pm as National Rail confirmed that, instead of just disruption, no services will run at all between Shepherds Bush and Watford Junction until approximately 6.30pm.

A Southern Railway spokesperson said: “A points failure has been reported, and this is preventing Southern services from travelling on this route.

“Points are moveable sections of track which can send trains onto different routes at junctions. These are part of the signalling system, generally managed by Network Rail.

“Points can stop moving correctly for a number of reasons. For example, there may be an obstruction in the moving parts, or the electronic control systems may have developed a fault.

“Network Rail have sent their specialist signalling and telecoms teams to site as a priority, and they are working to diagnose and fix the issue.”

Tickets can be used at no extra cost on the London Underground, London Overground, London Northwestern Railway services between Watford Junction and London Euston, Southern Services to Clapham/Victoria, or London buses between Shepherds Bush, Wembley, Harrow and Watford.
