Plans to divide up the former McDonald's store in The Parade for a “sandwich shop” to move in have been approved.
An application to sub-divide the unit, by the Exchange Road flyover, was submitted to Watford Borough Council on June 21.
Today (August 8), the council published its decision notice granting permission for the single shop floor to be split into a kiosk at the side and a unit of around three times its size with a separate entrance.

According to the planning statement, the larger part is “likely to be operated as a sandwich store” while the smaller area is intended to be a "kiosk unit".
The McDonald’s branch shut in 2019 and has been boarded up ever since. At the time, the fast-food giant said the decision to close the restaurant was “not taken lightly” but did not reveal the reason.
It appears likely that Subway will be the sandwich store occupying the main space as the applicant’s registered office address is listed as the existing Watford town centre Subway, in King Street.
Subway has been approached for confirmation.
The kiosk would maintain the existing doors while new doors would be added for the larger part.
