Network Rail has shared a closer look at essential engineering works which have shut a Watford train line for almost a week.

The railways body posted photos online of the improvements to the London Overground line between the town and London Euston while the service remains closed until tomorrow (August 8).

Around 20 miles of new cabling are being laid to make the signalling system more reliable, as engineers can be seen working near Carpenders Park with a large spool mounted on the track.

It is part of £2 million in improvements to the 16 miles of railway, which also includes the Bakerloo line between Queen’s Park and Harrow & Wealdstone.

Workers were also pictured digging a deep trench underneath the rails at Bushey in order to install buried cable crossings, which Network Rail said will help provide power to trains in a safe and efficient way.
