The M1 and M25 are set for closures near Watford over the next fortnight, with motorists warned to avoid them where possible.

Many motorway journeys after 10pm or 11pm will be disrupted as resurfacing, parapet works, and electrical works take place.

A potentially significant closure for Watford residents is due to start at 10pm on August 12 and continue to 6am each night until August 17, between junction 20 and junction 21 of the clockwise M25.

The carriageway will be closed for resurfacing work and a diversion will take motorists around it via local authority roads, with delays of 10 to 30 minutes expected.

  • From 10pm August 12 to 6am August 17: Moderate delays (10-30 minutes). Clockwise, junction 20 to junction 21. Lane and carriageway closure for resurfacing work. Diversion via local authorities.
  • (In progress) From 10pm August 1 to 5.30am August 31: Moderate delays (10-30 minutes). Clockwise, junction 23 to junction 24. Lane and slip road closure for NEAR Scheme. Diversion via National Highways roads.
  • (In progress). From 10pm August 5 to 6am August 10: Slight delays (under 10 minutes). Clockwise, junction 22 to junction 23. Lane closure for surfacing works.
  • From 10pm August 19 to 5am August 20: Moderate delays (10-30 minutes). Anti clockwise, junction 25 to junction 24. Lane closures and slip road closures for maintenance works. Diversion via National Highways roads.

M1:

  • From 10pm August 8 to 5am August 9: Slight delays (under 10 minutes). Southbound, junction 5 to junction 4. Lane closure for parapet replacements.
  • From 11pm August 9 to 6am August 10: Slight delays (under 10 minutes). Northbound, junction 4 to junction 5. Lane closure for parapet replacement works.
  • From 10pm August 12 to 5am August 14: Slight delays (under 10 minutes). Northbound, junction 4 to junction 5. Lane closure for electrical works.
  • From 10pm August 12 to 5am August 14: Slight delays (under 10 minutes). Southbound, junction 5 to junction 4. Lane closure for electrical works.
  • From 10pm August 14 to 5.30am August 15: Slight delays (under 10 minutes). Southbound, junction 5 to junction 4. Lane closure for sign works.
