Bus services have been disrupted after a Hertfordshire company withdrew from contracts, citing a £200,000 per month shortfall.

Sullivan Buses, based in South Mimms, shared a statement from managing director Dean Sullivan yesterday evening (August 2) confirming that it would “reluctantly” cease providing TfL services from that night on.

TfL has apparently assured the company it will be working to restore services as quickly as possible, but all routes served by Sullivan Buses currently display status alerts online.

The TfL alert says: “Routes 217, 298, 299, 327, 389, 399, 549, W9 may be subject to journey cancellations due to an operator ceasing bus operations in London.”

All Sullivan Buses commercial operations in Hertfordshire are unaffected and will continue to operate as normal.

According to the yesterday’s statement, the shortfall in income from the operator’s TfL contracts is estimated to exceed £200,000 per month.

It claimed that this was due to remuneration for providing TfL services no keeping pace with the increasing costs of service delivery as well as financial penalties as a result of increased congestion post-Covid.

Sullivan buses was the only small business operating bus services for TfL.

TfL has been contacted for comment.
