Watford Community Housing has bought 93 homes in a £64,000,000 development — in St Albans.

A housebuilding project in Jubilee Square, where the city’s former police station and NHS clinic were in Victoria Street, was formally declared complete this week.

Two buildings, made up of 93 flats and commercial space spanning 5,000-square-metres, 101 parking spaces, and landscaped gardens have been created.

All the flats have been bought by Watford Community Housing (WCH), which plans to make 33 available for social rent to people on St Albans City and District Council’s housing register. The remaining 60 will be sold on a shared-ownership basis.

A ceremony to celebrate the project’s completion was held on July 31.

Watford Community Housing chief executive Tina Barnard said: “We are delighted to have acquired Jubilee Square, bringing 93 much-needed new homes to St Albans.

“This development demonstrates the brilliant partnership working between housing associations and local councils that is vital to the delivery of affordable homes, and we are very pleased to be able to provide these homes to residents in St Albans, especially as it is an area that can be very expensive.

“We look forward to seeing the first residents move into these beautiful homes in the very near future.”

WCH has previously highlighted how homes in other areas helps the housing association diversify its portfolio and bring “high quality affordable homes” to a greater number of residents.

In a report published last week The Regulator of Social Housing gave WCH the highest rating for validity, stating that it was well set up to cope with potential “adverse scenarios” and still fulfil its obligations.
