Documents suggest a new Travelodge hotel is set to be built in Watford.
As part of the Watford Riverwell Development, near the hospital and Vicarage Road Stadium, the borough council and developer Kier Group are consulting the public on plans to include a hotel within the next stage to be built.
While the ‘neighbourhood square’ proposals are being drawn up, a document which appeared online stated that Travelodge is already lined up as the company to run the building once it goes up.

The file titled ‘Watford Riverwell – Neighbourhood Square and Hotel Site Project Brief Rev B’ states: “The scheme is being delivered by the JV [Joint Venture] on behalf of Travelodge via a pre-let.”
A pre-let is a contract which allows a tenant to agree to lease a building before the construction has started.
Watford Borough Council was approached for confirmation that the document is accurate.
A spokesperson said: “Riverwell are consulting prior to submitting a planning application on the new neighbourhood square proposals which includes a much-needed hotel.
“Travelodge is one of the interested parties.”
In March 2023, the hotel chain said it was aiming to nearly double its portfolio in Hertfordshire as it shared that it was seeking potential sites at 300 target locations nationwide.
One of the places it was looking at was "near Watford General Hospital".
