These neighbouring properties in an Oxhey street are now private homes but in the past they were occupied by two businesses that readers may remember.
The Watford Observer has again joined forces with its friends at Watford Museum to look back at structures, objects or businesses from the town’s past that have either disappeared or been relocated and this week we look back at the businesses that once occupied neighbouring premises in Oxhey.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “Today, numbers 33 and 35 Capel Road are private homes but at the time Bob Nunn took this photograph, Suzanne the florist was at No. 33 and a long-established butcher’s shop, Dixey's was at No. 35.

“The name came from Maurice Dixey who took the business in 1918. Initially it was his brother who ran the shop as Maurice had other shops including one in Watford High Street, but he later sold up and came to Capel Road.
“I understand that a distinctive thing about the shop was that there was a slaughterhouse behind.”
