Cineworld has confirmed that six of its cinemas will be closing as part of a restructuring plan, but Watford was not among them.

The news was revealed yesterday evening, after it was initially reported by Sky News that 25 cinemas would be set to shut.

Fortunately for cinema lovers, Watford is not on the list, with the Glasgow Parkhead, Bedford, Hinckley, Loughborough, Yate and Swindon Circus sites set to go.

Cineworld in Hemel Hempstead is also safe from closure.

As part of restructuring plans, company has been in preliminary talks with some of Britain's biggest commercial landlords.

A majority of creditors will need to approve the cinema operator's proposals, which could come into effect from late September 2024.

Included in the plans is the closure of around 25 sites, with rent reductions being sought at a further 50, while roughly 25 cinemas will be unaffected.

A spokesperson for Cineworld said: "We are implementing a restructuring plan that will provide our company with a strong platform to return our business to profitability, attract further investment from the Group, and ensure a sustainable long-term future for Cineworld in the UK."
