Police are currently combing a closed stretch of the A41 near Watford after a shooting left a man in a life-threatening condition.

A man on an e-bike was travelling southbound near Junction 5 when he was seriously injured during a run-in with occupants of a black BMW, which then sped off towards the M1.

It happened at around 5.20pm yesterday (July 25) and much of the A41 between The Dome roundabout and the Berrygrove Interchange has been shut since.

Today, there are a cluster of police cars at the side of the road with officers nearby and another car blocking the road heading west.

A group of people wearing black could be seen walking methodically in a line, occasionally stopping to look down at the ground, before moving to the grassy area in the middle.

Police warned the road will likely remain shut for much of today as investigations continue.

Arrests have been made in connection with the incident, with Watford Chief Inspector Andy Wiseman adding: “Following further intelligence which has come to light, we are now treating previous reports of targeted violence in Watford as connected.

“I understand news of this incident will be of concern to the community, and you can expect to see additional officers in the area as investigations are being carried out to determine the circumstances of what happened.

“The section of the A41 from Woodmere Avenue to the Berrygrove roundabout is to remain closed today until those investigations are concluded.”
