A new podcast series celebrating the River Colne has been launched by Watford Borough Council.

Developed in conjunction with Groundwork East and produced with assistance from West Herts College, the 'Tales of the River' podcast aims to captivate listeners with the history, environmental impact, and future prospects of the waterway.

The series is hosted by Watford mayor Peter Taylor, who promises each episode will provide an enlightening journey for listeners of various ages.

In every instalment, the mayor and his panel of experts will focus on a distinct aspect of the River Colne.

The audience can anticipate absorbing historical anecdotes alongside analyses of the waterway's environmental impact and the key role of nature in promoting mental wellbeing.

Funding for this project has been made possible through a grant exceeding £250,000 from National Lottery players and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, the mayor said: "We are thrilled to launch this podcast series and bring the story of the River Colne to life.

"I want to thank the talented students at West Herts College for helping us to create these podcasts and bringing their unique talent to the series, and National Lottery players for making this project possible.

"This project is not just about celebrating our local heritage, but also about raising awareness of the environmental challenges the river is facing.

"Through these podcasts, we hope to inspire the community to get involved with the River Colne."

As well as the narrative for each episode, there will also be sound bites from associated events and activities around the River Colne project.

These auditory snapshots aim to provide an immersive experience, to illustrate the various endeavours undertaken to safeguard and enhance the river's ecosystem.

The council invites all residents and river enthusiasts to join in this sonic exploration of the River Colne.

They assure an enjoyable and enriching experience to all who tune in.

All episodes of the 'Tales of the River' podcast series are now accessible via Spotify.
