Firefighters have worked through the night to tackle the “substantial” house fire in Rickmansworth.

Eight fire engines raced to Chorleywood Road after Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Herts Police were called to the blaze at around 4.11pm yesterday (July 23).

The fire service said crews had “worked extremely hard throughout the night” and that it still had firefighters at the scene at around 7.30am today.

Kings Langley Fire Station said it had been called out at 2am to continue damping down the blaze and shared photos of firefighters hosing down the property.

It is understood that no one was trapped inside the building and everyone has been accounted for, although the cause of the fire is not yet known.

A witness who drove past the scene said the two-storey home was “well alight” already by around 4.15pm and was still not out by 5.30pm.

Another resident said the firefighters appeared to be getting the flames under control at around 6.50pm, but by 7.20pm the glass part at the highest point of the two-storey home’s roof collapsed.
