A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving over the alcohol limit, after he was seen driving in the wrong direction on the A1(M) in the early hours of this morning.
Officers were called to the Hertfordshire motorway just after 12.20am today (July 22), to reports of a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction on the northbound carriageway from junction 6 for Welwyn heading towards the Barnet Bypass.
A crash was reported shortly after near the Barnet Bypass, with a black Toyota Auris and a grey Volkswagen Golf involved.
Officers attended the scene alongside the ambulance service, and no serious injuries were reported.
A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving over the alcohol limit. He remains in custody at this time.
PC Joe Massey, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "I would like to hear from anyone who was travelling on the A1(M) at this time and may have seen what happened.
"If you have a dash cam fitted, I urge you to please check your footage as you may have captured something that could assist us with our investigation."
