Few things can beat taking a dip in a pool on a hot day like today – and for almost a decade Watford Springs was a popular destination for those wanting to cool off.
Anticipation continued to build through the summer of 1990 as the Lower High Street swimming complex continued to take shape, but later that year its doors opened and customers were able to jump into the pools or fly down the flumes for the first time.
Although Watford Springs was labelled a ‘flagship’ facility and was loved by many people in the town, it was beset by problems from the outset and in October 2000 councillors voted to close the complex and order its demolition.
