Vacant land between homes is set to be built on as plans have been approved at the fifth attempt.

The site at 104 Estcourt Road, Watford, used to be the access to a workshop set back from the street but the commercial space has since been redeveloped into five bedroom housing with an entrance further up the road.

Since then, for almost a decade, neighbours have just seen the area blocked-off by hoarding saying “land acquired for clients” while repeat plans to a property there have been blocked by Watford Borough Council.

Previous proposals had been rejected due to their impact on neighbours, with council officers remarking that a design would need to be of “exceptional” quality to avoid this.

However, yesterday (July 18), the council decided to approve a proposal for a reduced scheme for a part-single and part-two-storey home with outdoor space left around it and a glass covered area at the side.

The home will have a large ground-floor lounge area, bathroom, and a kitchen on the ground floor with stairs to a double bedroom in the first-floor part.
