The weather may have done its best to wash out much of this summer so far but this wonderful image rekindles memories of relaxing on a warm day.
The Watford Observer has again joined forces with its friends at Watford Museum to look back at structures, objects or businesses from the town’s past that have either disappeared or been relocated and this week we look back at some benches that offered the opportunity to relax during summer.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “This year, we have experienced very few summer days like that shown in this 1966 photo taken by Bob Nunn.
- Nostalgic snaps of legendary entertainer Jimmy Tarbuck watching Watford
- Looking back at a former hospital and its original entrance
- The high street record shop next to a travel agents
“The benches were perfect for a relaxing chat with a friend, feeding pigeons or just dozing in what is probably a lunch hour.
“I understand that 1966 was not a particularly warm one so perhaps this was one of those rare perfect days.
“Sadly, these benches which were at the top of the High Street opposite the Town Hall are gone, but a sunnier summer has returned – for a few days at least.”
