A train passes over a viaduct stretching across what was to become one of Watford’s major roads when it was under construction around 30 years ago.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we recall this view of Stephenson Way at Five Arches.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “A road to link the M1/A41 roundabout in North Watford to the ring road had been proposed for many years. Work finally began in the early 1990s.
“By the time of this photo in March 1993, work had reached the Five Arches railway viaduct area and construction of the roundabout and connection to the ring road was well under way.
“The new road was named Stephenson Way.”
