Hertfordshire Police have released more details on the “gun altercation” which saw armed officers called to Watford town centre.

Police were called to Watford High Street Station at around 4pm on Wednesday (July 10) after a member of the public reported seeing someone with “what was possibly a firearm”.

A spokesperson for the force now said that the suspects reportedly brandished the alleged firearm at the victim who was sitting on a bench outside Watford High Street Railway Station.

The victim, a man in his 20s, fled into the station and was chased by the suspects who hit him on the back of the head with the possible firearm, according to police.

He suffered actual bodily-harm level injuries and was treated by medics before being taken to hospital.

Police have now confirmed they believe the suspects were wearing face coverings and fled in the direction of Queens Road on a black e-bike.

They previously said they were dressed in black, and one man was wearing blue pants and a gold chain.

Armed police descended on the town centre on Wednesday following the incident and the station was closed off as they searched the area.

Hertfordshire Police believes it was a “targeted incident” and there have been no arrests so far, although they increased their presence in the area in the following days.

They also confirmed it is not connected to the murder of three woman in Ashlyn Close, Bushey, on Tuesday evening.

Any information can be reported online via their website or on 101, quoting ISR 547 of July 10.
