More than 100 people were evacuated from the YMCA building in Watford town centre this evening after a fire broke out.
Eight Herts Fire Service crews raced to the scene alongside Herts Police at just before 10pm following a blaze in a third-floor flat.
Due to being a 10-floor building, full high-rise procedures were used by the fire service, a spokesperson said, which saw the site fully evacuated.
He added that the blaze was contained to the flat and all occupants were out. It is believed no one was seriously injured but the East of England Ambulance Service has been contacted for confirmation.
The fire was extinguished by around 11.15pm, though a heavy emergency services presence has remained as crews work to ensure the area is safe.
Eyewitness Aamir Ramos, who owns Café De Lisboa, said around 100 people had been moved to the nearby Beechen Grove Car Park as police and fire crews thronged to the area.
"It was all a bit crazy," he added.
