Hertfordshire Police have charged an 18-year-old after a woman was threatened with a screwdriver during a robbery in Watford.

A woman in her 20s was riding her e-scooter in Station Road at around 4am on Sunday, June 16, when two men ran after her and forced her to stop, the force said.

They demanded the victim in her 20s hand over the scooter and threatened her with what she believed to be a screwdriver, before making off with the vehicle.

After searching through CCTV, two suspects were identified and James Culpeck, of no fixed abode, was arrested and charged with robbery last Thursday (June 27).

A second suspect, a man aged in his 20s, was also arrested on Friday (June 28) on suspicion of robbery, but was released on conditional bail whilst police enquiries continue. 

Culpeck appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Friday and was remanded into custody ahead of his appearance at St Albans Crown Court on July 30.

Detective Constable Ben Chandler said: “We’ve been working hard to try and identify the individuals involved in this incident. 

“There is no place for this type of behaviour in Watford and I hope these arrests provide reassurance to the local community.”
