Watching television without a TV licence has landed a Watford woman with a hefty fine.
On Wednesday (June 26), Sara Machrak, of New House Crescent, was found guilty of using a television receiver without a licence between August 4 and October 5, 2023.
St Albans Magistrates’ Court ordered the 31-year-old to pay a £220 fine as well as a £88 victim services surcharge and £205 in costs, for a total of £513, by July 24.

Michelle Pinnock, of Walton Road, Watford, was fined by Tameside Magistrates’ Court in Manchester on June 10.
The 26-year-old had “thrown down, dropped, or otherwise deposited” a cigarette butt and left it in Portland Street, Manchester, on January 3 this year, in contravention of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Pinnock was fined £220 as well as being ordered to pay an £88 victim services surcharge and £125 in costs, for a £433 total by July 22.
