The former McDonald’s in The Parade looks set to be divided up and brought back into use.
An application to sub-divide the unit, by the Exchange Road flyover, appeared on the Watford Borough Council planning portal yesterday (June 26).
If the plan is approved, the larger part is “likely to be operated as a sandwich store” while the smaller area is intended to be a kiosk unit.

The McDonald’s branch shut in 2019 and has been boarded up ever since, it was placed on the market in September 2023. At the time, the fast-food giant said the decision to close the restaurant was “not taken lightly” but did not reveal the reason.
It appears likely that Subway will be the sandwich store occupying the main space as the applicant’s registered office address is listed as the existing Watford town centre Subway, in King Street.
Subway has been approached for confirmation.
The kiosk would maintain the existing doors while new doors would be added for the larger part.
The planning statement says that the proposal “would bring a unit that has stood vacant for several years back into viable use, creating jobs and contributing positively towards the viability of the town centre.”
It is currently pending council consideration.
