A pub has been forced to close after a council took court action following complaints made to police.

The Oaks Turkish Kitchen in West Hyde, Rickmansworth, has been forced to shut doors temporarily after it was served with a temporary closure notice for nuisance or disorder on June 18.

Action was taken by Three Rivers District Council.

It comes just weeks after the pub, formerly "The Oaks", reopened on May 31 under new management.

District council officers and representatives for the pub attended St Albans Magistrates’ Court on June 19 after Three Rivers applied for a longer-term closure order, which was contested by the The Oaks licence holder.

The case was adjourned until July 2 and magistrates' ruled the premises must remain closed until the next hearing.

Update: the case has been adjourned until July 19 at Stevenage Magistrates' Court.

A spokesperson for Three Rivers District Council confirmed the closure notice followed complaints made to the council and Hertfordshire Police, who they said are supporting the council’s enforcement action.

Hertfordshire Police have confirmed they attended the pub on two occasions in the last month.

On Saturday June 1, officers were called to reports of a disturbance inside the premises at around 2am, but no arrests were made.

On Thursday June 13, police were also called at around 11.47am to a concern for welfare report of a woman. Officers attended to ensure everything was in order and no arrests were made.

In a post on its Facebook page on June 18, the pub told customers it was temporarily closed due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

It added: “Rest assured, our dedicated team—Steve, Mel, Jimmy, and Elsa—are working tirelessly to get things back on track. We’ll be back up and running soon, with our Turkish kitchen in place, ready to delight your taste buds!”

The Oaks Turkish Kitchen has been contacted for comment.
