No more arrests have been made in connection with the Cassiobury robberies which stoked fears for schoolchildren’s safety.

Three robberies and four attempted robberies this month – most of which were over a two-day period last week – saw pupils told to travel in pairs as a number of victims were “secondary school age”.

Herts Police released more details on the attacks on Monday (June 17), which involved confirmation that an 18-year-old had been arrested following a knifepoint robbery in Cassiobury Park by five masked males.

Although it is being investigated in connection with the others, the arrest was only linked with that specific incident. The force has confirmed that as of Friday, no more arrests have been made.

Two of the incidents, which police previously said involved suspects reportedly demanding victims’ phones in Cassiobury Park and Shepherds Road on June 11, have been closed after further enquiries concluded no offences had taken place.

Investigations are ongoing into all the others, a police spokesperson said.

Many of them saw male suspects with face coverings demanding mobile phones, while two - including the one with an arrest - reportedly involved a knife or bladed weapon.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Hern, from the Watford Local Crime Unit, previously said: “I appreciate these incidents will be alarming to our local community. A number of the victims who have been targeted are of secondary school age. I would like to reassure parents, guardians, students and members of the public that we are doing everything we can to trace all those involved. We have increased our police presence in the area and are liaising with other relevant partners.”

It comes as a teenage boy was also robbed at knifepoint after being targeted by an Audi driver near Kings Langley on June 1, which police appealed for information about on Tuesday. A man in his 60s was also targeted near Rickmansworth Aquadrome on Wednesday (June 19) by two people who claimed they had a knife. No arrests have been made for either.

However, Herts Police did arrest six people people after a 16-year-old boy was robbed at knifepoint in Moss Road, near Garston, on Monday (June 17).

"I hope these arrests provide reassurance to our communities as we understand the impact robbery can have on individuals and incidents like this can cause alarm to the public," Inspector Dan Jones said at the time.

"Investigations are now underway to progress the case.”
