A road under a bridge has been closed for “particularly difficult” gas leak works.
Cadent Gas engineers are digging up Station Road, between Abbots Langley and Kings Langley, after a member of the public reported the leak.
The road, which is difficult to get around when travelling between the two villages, has been shut where it meets the railway since around 9.51am, according to traffic website One Network.

“Investigation work is currently taking place to pinpoint the exact location of the escape, but this is particularly difficult in this case as there are three gas mains running deep under the road and all need to be checked,” a Cadent spokesperson told the Watford Observer.
“As the location of the escape is close to a narrow bridge that uses traffic lights, we have had to put in a road closure so that our engineers can complete their work safely.
“Diversion routes have been put in place.”
The permit is listed for a week, until the end of June 21, but as it was an emergency closure this is generally standard practise and likely will not reflect the actual length of the closure.
The gas distribution company told residents that it is working as quickly and safely as possible to find the leak and carry out repairs so it can reopen the road quickly.
